Introduction

Everybody needs to pay attention to labor issues. It doesn't matter whether you work at a minimum wage job or you are a software engineer.

Any company's main goal is to make a profit. I don't begrudge them; it is only natural that a company cannot stay in business unless it does makes a profit. However, I do begrudge the behaviors companies engage in to make a profit!

Companies oursource! It doesn't matter if it is manufacturing or software development. Actually, computer programmers are manufacturers of software, one of the last American-made products that are quickly becoming outsourced. While China, Korea, Japan, and Taiwan make our electronic products and other items, India is developing software for many American companies. They also perform many of our customer service duties.

Companies say that they cannot afford the high wages of labor. How come they can afford the high salaries of their executives?

When sales are down sales people are laid off. Why not layoff the Vice President of Sales that develped the sales strategy?

Laborers are mistreated. If you don't have an office job or make a lot of money you must be stupid! Not so! While no profession has all smart or all dumb employees, I have met many stupid executives, managers, and professional employees.

Labor is an issue that concerns everyone. It is an issue that I believe both the Democrats and the Republicans ignore. It is one that you should not ignore!

Introduction to the Labor Party

The Labor Party (www.thelaborparty.org) is an organization dedicated to workers' rights. It is pro-union. Unions act as a resource for workers that do not have the rights, tools, or people power to negotiate or resolve work-related issues.

I believe that unions are important. I don't believe that unions are an anachronism useful in the past when companies did not treat workers well. Many workers are still not treated well.

When companies layoff employees people say that is the way it is. When companies merge and layoff employees people say that is just the way it is. I believe that is just the way that it does not have to be!
